Asst. Manager, Guest Services (Chateau St. Jean Winery)


The Assistant Manager, Guest Services, creates a smooth, efficient, service-oriented guest experience environment. Oversees and supervises guest services staff and reports directly to the Manager, Guest Services, on all estate experience center and customer service issues.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Opening and closing the Tasting Room
•  Daily banking, cash balancing, sales reporting; recording daily wine pours, keeping media materials current and stocked and managing wine inventory
•  Create purchase orders and submit for approval
•  Maintain daily shipping compliance
•  Assist with inventory by counting, verifying and posting end of the month inventory
•  Assists the Manager, Guest Services with scheduling duties which include; maintaining proper staff coverage and scheduling lunch and other breaks for tasting room employees
•  Works with membership concierge to develop and execute member exclusive experiences and spaces at the estate
•  Train staff and help manage reservation system, TOCK
•  Training duties include educating staff on new wines, price changes, procedure changes, etc., demonstrating and sharing sales techniques and instructing staff in proper operational procedures
•  Sell wine, merchandise and wine club memberships while providing excellent customer service
•  Facilitate the experiences of VIP, private and public group events
•  Process and deliver all Membership applications to Membership Concierge
•  Conduct monthly safety inspection
•  Lead estate experience centers(s) with FFW values and customer service expectations, motivating to hit goals and celebrating key milestones
•  Support direct reports in developing skills and coaching on professional development
•  Collaborate with other consumer direct and interdepartmental support teams, sharing information and results across wineries to build a cohesive hospitality team
•  Address and appraise performance, identify development opportunities and manage expectations
•  Create, design and implement hospitality service and sales and training programs
•  Create and delivery quarterly performance assessments through Success Factors for all direct reports and teams
•  Understand, uphold and train employees on the Foley Family Wines Core Values
•  Deploy peer-to-peer critical thinking and problem solving skills when presented with challenges, projects and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

•  Must have a strong knowledge of winemaking, from vine to wine and is able to provide a succinct summary of the process for both red and white wines
•  Commendable knowledge of the growing regions, wines, and the most common varietals in each viticulture area
•  Passion for talking about wine, educating people about wine, wine and food pairing, selling wine and promoting wine club events
•  Knowledge of membership programs is required
•  Knowledge of food handling certification and compliance is required
•  Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
•  Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to be a team player and model teamwork
•  Strong public speaking and presentation skills and be comfortable in front of large and small audiences
•  Positive role model and ambassador for Foley Family Wines in the Wine Industry and community
•  Professional appearance and demeanor
•  Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and some evenings
•  Prior demonstration of supervisory skills is required
•  Prior cash handling, computer, cash register, sales analysis and reporting experience are required


Experience and Qualifications

•  Bachelor’s degree or a wine-related technical degree with minimum three years of hospitality related experience is required
•  Minimum two years hospitality, restaurant and/or tasting room experience is required
•  Minimum one year supervisory experience (two years of wine industry supervision a plus)
•  Must be 21 years or older
